Perimenapause
Perimenopause is the time line prior to menopause or the ending of menaces and signifies the end of when a woman can bear offspring.
Signs of perimenopause can last a few years or for ten to twenty years and can be accompanied by symptoms similar to those associated with menopause and can include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, irritability, missed, skipped or spotty periods, headaches, acne, unwanted hair growth, hair loss, memory loss, vaginal dryness, breast tenderness, lack of sexual drive, and more.
Few if any women will experience more than a few of these symptoms at the same time. Fewer yet will experience severe symptoms. It’s estimated that only 15% of perimenopausal women experience severe hot flashes or night sweats.
Most women will continue to experience some of the previously described symptoms after menopause due to decreasing estrogen levels.
Women who are diagnosed or categorized as pre-menopausal or as early menopausal may experience menopause symptoms at a much earlier age, possibly in their 20’s or 30’s.
Perimenopause is not a disease or ailment and as such, there is no cure. Perimenopause is a term that is simply used to describe the natural progression between healthy child-bearing years, and menopause.
Perimenopause symptoms are treatable and many common sense measures can be taken to ameliorate the side effects that often accompany perimenopause. This is especially true if only mild to moderate symptoms persist.
Moderate to severe and very severe perimenopausal symptoms may cause one to seek a more powerful intervention. HRT and bioidentials while proven effective, carry unwarranted risks and should be avoided, even short term.
