Fem-Flax® and Hysterectomy

“Phytoestrogens, compounds derived from plants and converted into weak estrogenic substances in the gastrointestinal tract, are heavily promoted as the “natural alternative” to estrogen replacement therapy for postmenopausal women or women who have undergone a hysterectomy.” Western Journal of Medicine v.173 (4); Oct 2000.

The outer cover of the flaxseed (hull) offers the richest supply of naturally occurring plant-based lignans and the most potent source of phytoestrogens in the entire plant kingdom.  These naturally occurring plant compounds are similar in some ways to estradiol, the most powerful and prevalent of the three naturally occurring hormones produced by the ovaries.

Unlike estrogen, the phytoestrogens in Fem-Flax do not increase the risk of breast or uterine cancer. While balancing hormones on the one hand, in vivo clinical studies have shown that the powerful lignans in Fem-Flax also have an anti-estrogenic effect and actually help to prohibit the first time and potential regrowth of breast cancer cells, as well as other tumorous growths.

Studies show that these phytoestrogens act more like SERMS (selective estrogen receptor modulators) than actual estrogens.

Fem-Flax can act as a safe and effective menopause symptom management tool and can be used by pre, peri, and postmenopausal women, women having undergone full or partial hysterectomies, or women searching for a safe alternative to HRT (hormone replacement therapy).
