Flax Hull Lignans - More Than Just A Treatment for Menopause Symptoms
All natural flax hull lignans offer the full spectrum of 27 lignans and the most potent source of SDG (Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside) flax hull lignan. Flax Lignans are only found in the outer hull covering of the flaxseed and through special processes, are extracted in highly concentrated form. The primary embryo and oils are not used.
Probiotic bacteria found in the digestive tract convert the plant lignans into the mammalian lignans enterodiol (ED) and enterolactone (EL), and are also powerful antioxidants and potent free radical scavengers. Clinical in vivo studies have shown that these mammalian lignans help strengthen the immune system, and naturally lower estrogen levels, helping to reduce or eliminate entirely, menopausal symptoms in women, including hot flashes and night sweats.
Some health care professionals believe that SDG Ligans are as effective as HRT (hormone replacement therapy) in treating menopause and perimenopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood shifts, without the high-risk side effects.
While the many health benefits associated with flax hull lignans have only recently been discovered, strong evidence already exists that flax hull lignans are an effective means of treating the following:
- Boosts the body's immune system
- ED and EL mimic estrogen in the body and more efficiently (than HRT) manage menopause symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings
- Lignans protect against the formation and metastization of various types of cancers including breast cancer, colon cancer, bowel cancer, and prostate cancer
- Flax hull lignans are the best natural estrogen substitute for both men and women
- Clinical evidence shows that lignans help control and reduce excessive free radical activity in the body
- Lignans provides the RDA of vitamin B12 in the form of Cobalamin
- Lignans provides excellent nutritional dietary fiber
- Flax lignans help prevent hair loss and add shine and gloss
- Lignans offer support for HIV and AIDS patients, especially in reducing viral infections
The FDA (USA)
"Flax seed lignans have anti-tumor, anti-mittic, antioxidant and weak estrogenic activity, are potentially the richest source of phytoestrogens in the human diet and may be linked to a low incidence of breast and colon cancer. Their significant ability to prevent cancer is recognized by the National Cancer Institute. In addition to having anti-cancer properties lignans also have anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungus properties."

The Mayo Clinic (USA)
"Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring compounds that lower circulating estrogens in your body. Flaxseed is particularly high in one phytoestrogen, lignan, which appears to decrease estrogen production and which may inhibit the growth of some breast cancers."

The American Cancer Society
"One study of 25 men with prostate cancer found that a low-fat diet along with ground flaxseed reduced serum testosterone, slowed the growth rate of cancer cells, and increased the death rate of cancer cells."

Flax Hull Lignans are more potent as an antioxidant than the darkest leafy green vegetable! Kale is a vegetable that has one of the highest ORAC values (the measurement of antioxidant). Kale's ORAC value is 1770, while concentrated Flax Hull Lignans have an ORAC value of 19,600! Prunes are the fruit with the highest ORAC value at 6,770, which still doesn't come close to Flax Hull Lignans!
ORAC values on lignans were performed by Brunswick Laboratories, in Norton, MA.
Note: Fax hulls do not contain any seed materials or its oil. They are specially milled and are very stable at room temperature and will not turn rancid, if properly kept, for up to 4 years.
Obviously, whole ground flaxseed contains the outer hull, flaxseed oil, as well as the embryo portion of the seed. To get the same benefits found in flax hull lignans, one would need to consume 7 to 10 times the amount of whole ground flaxseed.
Unfortunately, too much of a good thing could be bad for your health. Consuming large quantities of flaxseed can be toxic.
